Hi, I’m Marc, and I’m honoured to be your Philosophy Companion!
With a more than decade of experience in education, along with a solid grounding in the history of philosophy, I believe that anyone can benefit from the wisdom contained within our many philosophical traditions. I strive to help both students and professionals understand and utilise core concepts from a host of thinkers in their everyday practices, and I hope to empower people with the theoretical and practical knowledge to flourish in their endeavours. I therefore create online educational content, facilitate community groups, and am available for both academic and business consulting.
I have studied and taught philosophy for many years, engaging with thinkers both ancient and modern. I graduated with my M.A. in philosophy from the University of the Free State (South Africa) in 2018, completing my dissertation on Aristotelian ethics and politics, and am currently working on attaining my Ph.D., focusing on Hannah Arendt’s political thought on education and the public sphere. However, I do not feel philosophy is only for the academics but is foremost about a way of life. Studying and practicing philosophy has empowered me with the vocabulary and skills to better express my experiences and expertise, and I wish to share in that strength with others.
It is for this reason that I started this company, Philosophy Companion, a title that describes both what it is and what I do – I am your companion in our philosophical journey, seeking to co-operate with you in understanding these admittedly difficult (though not insurmountable) texts. I must admit my debt and gratitude to my colleague and friend, Dr Gregory B. Sadler, and his company, ReasonIO, for being the inspiration and impetus behind me putting philosophy into practice. And you can too! Join us in this wide and wonderful world of philosophy that we are preserving and that can help us build ourselves and our communities through the cultivation of strong minds and characters. Excellence sells itself, while only corruption and incompetence need solicit customers. So, why not take the steps towards your own personal and professional excellence?
